Cooper Cooling & Heating Inc is a New York City heating and cooling contractor working across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. Four boroughs, four genuinely different kinds of building — and a line card chosen to match them rather than to match a supplier agreement.
We work on what this city actually has
Most HVAC companies are set up for houses: a furnace in a basement, a condenser in a yard, ductwork in between. That describes a real part of New York — the detached homes of Bayside, Whitestone, Throggs Neck and Country Club — and we do that work.
But it does not describe most of the city. Most of New York cools through a chassis in a wall sleeve or a heat pump in a closet, and heats off a steam boiler installed before anyone living in the building was born. Those are different disciplines with different failure modes, and they are ones a lot of contractors simply do not take on.
We carry nine brand lines so that all of it is serviceable:
- Daikin, Mitsubishi and Fujitsu — ductless mini-splits, for the brownstones, rowhouses and converted rooms with no duct runs at all
- American Standard and Goodman — central air and furnaces, for the housing that can take ductwork
- Island Aire, Ice Air and Omega — through-wall PTAC units, the equipment behind the grille in most city apartments
- Climate Master and Ice Air — water-source heat pumps, for the buildings running a condenser-water loop
Carrying that range is not about choice for its own sake. It is what makes repair a genuine option on equipment already in place, instead of every call ending in a quote for a new system.
A $175 diagnostic, told to you before we book
Repairs carry one flat fee to come out, diagnose the system properly and tell you what is wrong. You know that number before you agree to anything, it does not climb while we work the problem out, and you get the diagnosis whether or not you go ahead with the repair.
That last part is the point. It is the arrangement that lets us tell you your boiler is fine and the problem is venting, or that your heat pump is healthy and the fault is the building's loop, without those answers costing us the job. A company paid only when it sells you something has a harder time saying that.
Straight answers about what is wrong
A great deal of what we get called to replace does not need replacing. Uneven heat in a steam-heated rowhouse is almost always distribution balance rather than boiler capacity. An apartment that will not cool on a water-source heat pump is frequently the building's loop rather than the unit. A no-cool call is very often a capacitor, a fouled coil or a blocked condensate drain.
When something genuinely is finished, we will say so and price the replacement as one complete number. But that is a conclusion we would rather reach through diagnosis than start from.
